Farwell To A Friend

This was not the post I was planning on making my triumphant return to domesticated house hubby with.  Honestly, it is a post that I wish I would never have to write at all.  This afternoon we said good bye to our good boy Gromit.

-Gromit Olds-

2011 - 2022

Gromit was born in the Edmonton area, at least that is what everyone thinks, but nobody actually knows.  Based on the information we got from the rescue and his vet he was about six months old when we adopted him in September, 2011.  Which made his birthday sometime in April, it became April 12 when the City of Edmonton needed a full birth date to get his license.

We found Gromit at an adoption event in our community park and knew right away he was meant to be our dog.  At 6 months, we would be his fourth and final home: he was abandoned and was living on the street with his brother Wallace, they were sent to the pound, rescued by WHARF (Whitecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation), and they had him in the park that day for the adoption event.

All in all he lived a long, happy life and logged many miles in the backseat as we travelled back and forth across the country.  The last couple of years, instead of riding with us he enjoyed trips to doggie camp (the kennel) because he was getting on in years and it was to hard for him to get in and out of the truck.  However, we did make enough happy memories to last us a lifetime.

He passed away peacefully surrounded by his parents this afternoon (August 8) at about 4:45 PM.  He left us peacefully as he slipped off into his final rest.  I am sure by now, he has already joined my mother, who passed away a few years ago, and she is finally taking on that walk like she always wanted to.

Farwell my friend.  You will be missed and always loved.
