Introduction to the Domesticated House Husband
I worked most of my adult life, close to twenty years in the hospitality industry. I worked the front desk of motels, hotels, suites, and resorts. I tried to learn a little from each department, like cleaning rooms or working in the kitchen and bar. Then I was required to retire due to illness.
Currently, I live on a small disability pension and my wife is the real bread winner in the family. I still earn my keep by maintaining our home. I cook, clean, and oversee the family finances. It is something that I have a knack for and enjoy doing. While I may no longer be fit to go work as I did for so long, the skills I picked up are still put to good use.
My wife is nearing retirement age herself. As that day draws closer I think about what the future holds for us. Personally, I'd like to open a little country bed & breakfast. Find a nice old Victorian farm house on the edge of town with a little bit of land. Convert it into a quiet, relaxing stop over.
I have twenty years of hospitality experience I could put into it. I have a friend in Ontario that already runs her own Bed and Breakfast who I am sure would give me helpful advice on start up. I also know a great chef that can help me plan out delicious country style breakfasts.
But until that day comes, I will just keep doling out tips, recipes, and the occasional joke.
