Pre-Planning Can Be A Pain

My wife and I have decided it is time to visit my parents in Ontario again.  So next summer we will pack up our car and drive across Canada.  Being the type of person that I am I took it upon myself to start planning the trip this morning.

We agreed that we are done with tent camping.  That is why we left the tent and air mattress with our son during our recent trip to Prince George.  Both my wife and I are getting a little old for sleeping on the ground anyway.

We hope to replace the tent with a small trailer.  However, if we got the trailer by next summer, I doubt its maiden voyage would be one across the country.  So the trip is going to be hotel stays.

This morning, I started looking at options for the route.  Last time we did this it was long days (8 - 12 hours) on the road.  My wife and I are not the only ones getting older either...so is the dog.  I do not think he could handle eight or more hours for four or five days in the car.

I managed to make plans to get us across the prairies and into Ontario.  Then I ran into a slight snag on night four.  I could not find us a hotel in Sault Ste Marie for the week I had randomly picked for the trip.

There are four or five potential hotels in the Sault.  However, one does not take pets at all and three or four do not allow dogs that are more than 50 pounds.  There was one hotel that would not have any issues with the dog, but they were booked the entire week.

This minor setback has not deterred me.  I will have to sit down with my wife and figure a new set of dates that work.  Then, once again I will start planning, after all I only have 10 months or so to get this figured out.
