Yesterday, my wife and I were suppose to go visit our friend at her trailer. She e-mailed me early in the morning to say she wasn't feeling well, so we rescheduled for next week. However, my wife felt like she still wanted to go on a bit of an adventure.
But where did we want to go? We decided on a trip to Camrose, which is a nice drive. So we packed lunch in the cooler, threw the dog in the truck, and we were off.
Both my wife and I have always liked Camrose. It is a city with a small town feel. Big enough to have Walmart and fast food joints around the edge, but with a small town main street full of "mom & pop" stores.
But things change, Camrose is the kind of place you go exploring, not take the dog. So we turned right instead of left and went to eat our lunch by the lake instead. The village of Bittern Lake is nice, but it doesn't have any place to sit by the lake and eat one's lunch.
So things changed and we kept on driving. We have been to Wetaskiwin many many times. But on this adventure we came across a bit of a hidden gem.
We discovered By the Lake Park. A superb day-use facility featuring a 17-acre man-made lake with a 2.5 kilometre paved trail winding its way around it. The large picnic area made this an ideal spot to put the dog on his long lead and enjoy some lunch.
I know it is the tag line from an old car dealership commercial, but By the Lake Park is worth the drive to Wetaskiwin.
