Spring Is A Tease

Here in northern Alberta  spring is often referred to as pothole season.  We have beautiful spring-like days with lots of sunshine and above zero temperatures but at night we will still slip into minus double digit temperatures.  This creates a cycle of freeze and thaw.

For example, it was -11 when I sent my wife off to work this morning.  Which means she had to navigate across a frozen parking lot to get to the car.  Once at the car she would have to be careful not to break the ice and put her foot into the ice-cold water under it.

This evening when she gets home from work she will have 3 inches of water in our parking spot.  She may well park in our visitor's parking so she does not have to walk through it.  At some point we will actually follow through and get the shovel out of our storage locker to dig a drench from the parking spot to the drain.

At least they have taken down the don't open your windows sign (it gets cold enough in the winter that open windows lead to broken pipes in the heating system) so I can open windows and the front door to get some fresh air in the apartment.
