This summer my wife and I were considering heading east again, not to visit family but to explore the city of Kingston, Ontario and the surrounding area. I have been to Kingston on a family vacation when I was younger, but my wife has never been and there are some interesting sights to see in the area. This would be a fifteen day trip, ten of which would be travel days getting there and back.
Two years ago, we went on a much different trip when we went to Drumheller, Alberta on a three day mini-vacation. Much less time in the car driving and much more time exploring. We had a wonderful time.
If we take the fifteen days were were planning for this summer, that is five little mini-vacations. In addition to not have to spend ten days of holiday driving, we would not have to spend all of our holiday money at once. It also gives us a chance to explore some places we would like to visit, but that are just to far away to do as day trips.
