Hawkeye Pierce's Pickled Shrimp

 


The M*A*S*H cookbook strikes again

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 2 pounds jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined leaving tails intact

Directions:

  • In a large shallow dish combine all of the above ingredients except the shrimp and mix well.
  • Add the shrimp and toss gently to coat.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 2 - 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Preheat broiler to medium.
  • Drain the shrimp and discard the marinade.
  • Broil for 3 - 4 minutes on each side or just until the shrimp turn opaque.
  • Transfer to a platter and serve immediately.
