I am sure that when Nat King Cole chose "Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days Of Summer" as an album title in 1963 he was not thinking of forest fires. However, the last couple of days that is all I can think of. What looks like a cloudy day, with a chance of rain, is actually clouds of smoke rolling in from the forest fires in the north.
Once again whole towns have had to pick up and move out of the fire's path. I am certainly not here to compare the inconvenience of smoke hanging in the air to what they must be enduring.
I have never been in their shoes. I believe my Father told me that once when we lived in Northern Ontario we were under an evacuation warning. However, I do not remember any of it because I was to young.
The first experience I had with forest fires and smoke that I can remember was when I was working in Canmore. I got to work and commented on how foggy it was that evening. My co-worker explained to me it was not fog, it was smoke.
My hope is that when this forest fire season draws to an end. All of the brave souls fighting the fires as well as all of the victims of the fires get to go home safe and sound.
