Can't Go Back

Yesterday, my wife and I decided it was time for an adventure.  Somewhere we had not been in a long time.  So we loaded the dog into the truck and drove 2 hours (or so) south east to Wainwright.

The plan was to arrive there in time for lunch at a little road side burger place we discovered a few years ago.  But based on previous Sunday drives through small town Alberta, I took an A&W coupon just in case it was not open.  Good thing I did too.

It wasn't so much that road side stand wasn't open.  It wasn't there at all.  The owner was not only closed but the little shack was gone.

While we were both disappointed, it had been a few years since we had last been there, so we were not really surprised.  In addition to the A&W there was already a Subway and Boston Pizza located right next door to where the stand was.  Now the town also offers McDonalds and Dairy Queen.

I guess she could not compete.  While I will always prefer a burger cooked on a BBQ behind a small little shack over any fast food joint.  I will not always drive 2 hours each way to get it.
