This weekend my brother took his family to the first of three fall fairs they will visit over the next four weeks. Next weekend they will be going to another small town fall fair. Then on Thanksgiving weekend, they will be heading to the biggest one of the three.
So I have picked up the challenge. Next weekend my wife and I are heading to our first fall fair since we have moved to the area.
Stony Plain Old Time Harvest Festival
The day begins with an old fashioned church service, then it’s time to get to work! See threshing and blacksmithing the way they used to do it with vintage machinery. The day includes plenty of fun for all ages, including live entertainment, square dancing, and delicious treats.
The week after that, we will be back on the road for another fall festival...
Great White North Pumpkin Weigh-In and Fair
Kick things off with a pancake breakfast, then spend the rest of your day enjoying the midway, petting zoo, face painting, balloons, show and shine, farmers’ market, entertainment, food vendors and, of course, pumpkins.
Of course, unlike my brother in Southwestern Ontario, the fall fairs and festivals around here are weather permitting. By that I do not mean whether or not the show will go on, what I mean is whether or not it is worthy trying to drive an hour and a half on open country roads.
