Rules For Sons

Today, I had planned to write a post about the country road trip we took because our building's water was turned off.  Instead, I have decided to post something I came across on Facebook.  My father taught me many of these rules, but a few were new to me.

(1) Always protect your siblings.

(2) Be confident and humble at the same time.

(3) Call and visit your parents often, they miss you.

(4) Carry two handkerchiefs. The one in your back pocket is for you. The one in your breast pocket is for her.

(5) Don’t let a wishbone grow where a backbone should be.

(6) Experience the serenity of traveling alone.

(7) Give credit, take the blame.

(8) Hold your heroes to a higher standard.

(9) In a negotiation, never make the first offer.

(10) Manners maketh the man.

(11) Never be afraid to ask out the best looking girl in the room.

(12) Never shake a man’s hand sitting down.

(13) Never turn down a breath mint.

(14) Play with passion or not at all.

(15) Return a borrowed car with a full tank of gas.

(16) Stand up to Bullies.

(17) Thank a veteran.

(18) The man at the BBQ Grill is the closest thing to a king.

(19) Try writing your own eulogy; never stop revising.

(20) When entrusted with a secret, keep it.

(21) When shaking hands, grip firmly and look them in the eye.

(22) Write down your dreams.

(23) You marry the girl, you marry her family.

How many of these did your parents pass on to you?  How many have you passed on to your son?
