My wife and I spent the past week in Prince George visiting our son and his family. A lot of our time was good old fashioned down time where we did not do much of anything. But we did have a few adventures as well.
On our first weekend there (Aug 12-13), for example we went to both the Prince George farmer's market (on Saturday) and the East Line Market in Willow River (on Sunday). It was on our trip to Willow River on Sunday that things got interesting. Our son owns a Jeep and enjoys going offroading.
So on Sunday, we went a bit of a fun drive. No, we did not go offroading, I doubt that our 4 wheel drive Ford Escape could go half the places that his 4x4 Jeep could go. But we did do a bit of backroadin'.
On our way to the market, we found a nice spot to look at the Willow River. Looking back on it now, I am sure that he may well have been scoping out good fishing spots. After our time at the East Line Market, we travelled to the shores of Eaglet Lake (in nearby Giscome).
However, it was the last leg of our journey that I will remember most. Another stop along the Willow River. However this time we accessed it via a logging road.
My wife, who is from B.C., was explaining to me as we drove along the road, that had they been logging that day we would have had to pay close attention to the radio. The logging truck drivers will use it to announce their locations as they travel (at top speed) up and down the road. If you are in their way, it is your job to get out of it, because they are not slowing down.
I doubt very much that we would have made this trip if we were still driving our old Ford station wagon. It was a beautiful trip through the bush that I truly enjoyed. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to do it.
