Christmas Strike

Currently Canada Post and its union are in the middle of a strike.  While work has not stopped completely, the union has been running rotating strikes.  The other day, I saw an article in which Canada Post stated that the likelihood of parcels being delivered by Christmas was between slim and none (and slim left town).

My wife's family all live in B.C., while mine are all in Ontario, so Canada Post has always played a large part in our Christmas plans.  But, this year, we have a contingency plan in place.  This year we are having an e-mail Christmas.

Of the ten gifts we need to get, four are for children.  The problem with buying gifts for children that you do not see that often is that between the time you find out what they want and buy it they have moved on to new interests.  So our mantra for kid's gifts...cash.

Of the remaining six gifts, four are the parents of the above mentioned children.  Our go to gifts for them the last couple of years has been a date night (gift cards for dinner and movie).  This year, we will be sending them the cash equivalent.  As for the last two gifts to buy are my wife's Mom and my Dad.  Both of whom already have pretty much everything they want.

In a way, I have to thank Canada Post.  This year there will be no running around crowded stores looking for the perfect gifts.  I will simply sit down at the computer with a nice cup of tea and make a couple of E-transfers, and while I am at it I may even fire off a few e-Christmas cards.
