As a dog owner, living in an apartment, we are responsible for making sure the dog gets outside to take care of his business. Regularly, he goes out three times a day; although he has had days where he needs more. I am responsible for the morning and afternoon walks and my wife takes care of his evening strolls.
Now, I would be lying, if I said I would not prefer a house with a fenced back yard. I could, especially on those cold winter mornings, let him out and wait for him to do his thing. It would also allow him more outside time, in the summertime, to lay in the sunshine and fresh air.
Not that I am complaining. I knew what I was getting myself into when we adopted him. And there are time when our walks are very pleasant.
My favorite is our Sunday morning stroll, particularly at this time of the year. It is dark and still. Many Sunday mornings, it is just he and I, not another living soul to be seen.
I am not sure that quiet time together would be worth trading in on the convenience of a fenced back yard.
