Moving Is Money

After the past week, I think I may have chosen the wrong career path.  Being a domesticated house husband is not a high paying job, in fact it is a voluntary position. The real money seems to be in the moving and storage industry.

My wife and I budgeted $2000.00 for our recent move.  That was to cover moving supplies, the actual move, and the clean up and removal of what was left.  A fair price for moving our few modest possessions.

We were in the U-haul store picking more boxes so frequently, we were on a first name basis with the clerks.  The elevator, that we consider a blessing, in our new building actually slowed down the movers increasing the time it took to get everything moved in.  Finally, the cost to remove the last bits of furniture (box spring and old couch) doubled somewhere between the quote and payment of the bill.

Now we may have paid a little more for some of our new furniture than we planned, although what we did buy is rather nice.  We also may have spent a little more than we planned eating out, but there were some nights that neither of us had the energy to cook.  But we never allowed these costs to get too far out of hand.

All I know is that our $2000.00 move cost us closer to $3000.00 if not more.  So maybe it is time to consider a career change.  After all, it appears, moving is money.
