Time To Vote

I have voted in every municipal, provincial, and federal election that I have been eligible for since I was 18.   I have not voted out of a feeling of civil duty or responsibility, but because of something someone said to me during that first election.  Just remember if you don't vote, don't bitch.

Tomorrow we are headed to the polls to elect the next provincial government amid concerns of a possible record-low turnout at the ballot box.  It is anticipated that voter turnout will drop below the record low 40 per cent, the lowest ever posted in a Canadian provincial campaign.  But, then I saw a glimmer of hope.

During the campaign, mixed in amongst the promises and attack ads, a PSA has caught my eye.  A $1 million campaign aimed at counteracting voter apathy.  The ad features a man about to make choices in everyday situations — only to have someone else make the decisions for him.

I thought that this got the point across in a very simple, and hopefully, effective way.  Otherwise tomorrow, we may see the next sitting government winning the election with the support of only 20.4% of the province's eligible voters.  So people, just remember if you don't vote, don't bitch.
