We returned home from our holidays to find ourselves in the middle of a heat wave. Living in an apartment, we do not have central air. Once we get a few pay cheques back under our belt, we are thinking about buying a portable air conditioner. My argument being I want it cold in whatever room I happen to be in, not just one specific room. Actually, there are units out there that would cool our entire apartment.
But until that day, we have to make do with what we have. I have a fan in every window that, I hope circulate the air somewhat. We have three trays of ice cubes ready to go in the freezer for cold drinks, making sure to include a few that go into the dog's water dish, along with the fresh cool water after every walk. My wife has discovered that if you wrap an ice pack in a wet dish towel it helps transfer the cold. She sits with it on her neck or chest to cool down. I find that I enjoy using it more like a wash cloth to dampen and cool my skin.
Today and tomorrow are the last really hot days we have to survive. Today it will be 84 F and feel like 91 F. Tomorrow it is 86 F, feeling like 91 F. Then the weather breaks, we drop down to the low 70's and have thunderstorms for a few days. A nice reprieve. I look forward to walking the dog in a cool rain, something I think we will both enjoy.
