Giving Credit Where It Is Due

The hotel housekeeper is an invisible employee.  They work very hard but but often do not share in the glory or get the credit they deserve.  A clean room is the expectation, so if they have done their job well, who notices.  If it is not, there will be yelling and screaming.  It does not matter if you are staying at a cheap road side motel or a luxury resort.

For twenty years prior to becoming a house hubby I worked in customer service.  At least fifteen of those years were spent in hospitality.  In my opinion, the hotel housekeeper is the most overworked and under appreciated employee on the property.  As part of my training, at several properties, I was required to spend anywhere from a day to a week working side by side with a housekeeper.  In fact, on some night shifts, when I was the only person on site, I was the housekeeper.

Remember the next time you walk into a pristine hotel room, someone has worked very hard to ensure that it was immaculate for you.  Stop at the front desk and tell them what a great job housekeeping had done on your room.   Even better leave the housekeeper a nice tip when you check out.
