As part of our move, my wife and I decided it would be a good time to upgrade some of our furniture. A week or so ago, we updated the kitchen table and chairs, although they are still in their boxes in the trunk of our car. Last weekend, the Brick was having a big sale, so we, on the spur of the moment, bought a new couch and matching chair because of the great deal they were offering.
Now, on the other hand, buying all this new stuff means that something else has got to go. I believe I have mentioned that I am a sentimental hoarder, so I hate throwing stuff out. So lugging our old furniture out to the garbage was hard for me, but sometimes ya just gots to do what ya gots to do.
So the other evening, under the cover of darkness, we moved our old kitchen table and my wife's old dresser out by the garbage bin behind our building. We, then took the dog for his usual bedtime walk, upon returning home, both pieces were already gone. As a sentimental hoarder, I have to admit it made me feel good to know that somebody wanted (or at least needed) them.
I have a feeling that the next batch of stuff we have to take out will not be gone as quickly. As we get closer to moving day, the boxspring, bed frame, and couch will be making their way out back. Tossing the bed frame, may mean a week or so of sleeping on the air mattress until the new one we ordered arrives. However, I am betting it will be a lot easier to dispose of unwanted furniture here then it will be in our new building.
