This afternoon, while out doing errands with my wife, I noticed a hole in my glove. Not a big deal, they cost me a whole $1.50 at Dollarama a couple of years ago. I can either toss them and buy an new pair or ask my wife to sew up the hole for me. The option that I don't have is sewing it myself.
Sewing is not a skill that I have mastered. I never had the patience or the dexterity to be very good. In moments of sheer desperation, I can use a needle and thread, just do not expect the stitches to be neat. But they will do the job.
My wife on the other hand is a quilter and a sewer. Her stitches are almost surgically neat. If I decide to ask her to save my glove, you will have to look very closely to find her stitch work.
